How much super is enough in retirement?
We’re often asked, “How much super is enough?” that’s a really tough question to answer, because financial freedom is different for everyone. But in our experience, most people need 70%–80% of their pre-retirement income to fund their retirement lifestyle.
According to the Retirement Standard Report published by the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA), $690,000 is the minimum estimated savings amount needed for a couple to lead a comfortable lifestyle in retirement. (If you’re single, the figure is $595,000.)
The key word is ‘comfortable’, and that may not be a good enough standard for your retirement lifestyle. You may prefer ‘abundant’, which means you need to aim for a significantly higher number.
