Seniors Health Card: What It Offers and Who Qualifies
The Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (CSHC) is one of the most valuable concessions available to retirees. Yet many Australians don’t realise they qualify.
What the Card Provides
Cardholders can access:
- Cheaper prescription medicines under the PBS
- Bulk-billed doctor visits at some practices
- Higher Medicare refunds
- Discounts on energy, transport and other state-based concessions*
Eligibility Rules
The CSHC is available to Australians of Age Pension age who do not qualify for the pension. Income must be below:
- $95,400 a year for singles
- $152,640 for couples combined**
There is no assets test, unlike the Age Pension.
With medical and energy costs rising, the CSHC can save retirees thousands each year. Importantly, it is available to self-funded retirees who miss out on the Age Pension.
If you’re not eligible for the Age Pension, don’t miss the CSHC. It’s one of the most valuable concessions in retirement.
